AWE Communications was founded in
1998 as a spin off from the Institute of Radio Frequency Technology at the University of Stuttgart.
Since these early days, the
main focus of AWE Communications was the development of software tools
for the planning and analysis of wireless and mobile communication
networks.
During the last 10 years, AWE
Communications has accompanied
the evolution
of
wireless and cellular mobile communications including the migration
from 2G via 3G to 4G cellular networks. Together with strategic partners and involved in multiple public funded projects,
AWE Communications has developed many software tools which contributed
significantly to the success of the customers
in the strong competition
in the world of wireless communications.

Today highly innovative propagation
models are combining high accuracy and short computation times. WinProp, the main software suite of
AWE Communications,is nowadays a standard software in the world of
wireless
propagation and radio network planning. Furthermore, the propagation models of AWE
are currently available as plug-ins
for all popular radio network planning tools.

Since 1998, the headquarter of AWE
Communications was located
in Gaertringen. In 2003 the R&D
and sales team of AWE Communications
moved
to the Software
Center
in Boeblingen.
Both locations are in the south west of
Germany, close to Stuttgart,
the capital of Baden-Württemberg,
one of most innovative regions in
Europe. Boeblingen is also close to the northern part of the Black Forest,
one of the most attractive and famous sightseeing areas in Germany. |

Main Activities
|
|
Started
with propagation models for rural, urban, and indoor scenarios, AWE
Communications is nowadays offering the whole bandwidth of software products
for the simulation and planning of wireless networks including dynamic system simulators and network
optimizers.
Additional tools for the evaluation of the electromagnetic compatibility of
transmitter sites have been designed to support cellular network
operators and OEMs during the approval of their sites.

Besides these RF software tools also
traffic simulators and
tools for the handling of building
databases or antenna patterns
are in the portfolio of AWE
Communications. Together with the huge number of available converters (for
databases, antenna patterns, and prediction results), the tools of AWE
Communications are used all over the world where highly accurate
prediction models and network planning tools are needed.
Products of AWE Communications combine high performance algorithms for
the computation with easy-to-use interfaces for the user. In the vision
of AWE Communications it makes no sense to improve only the algorithms
- the typical user
and not only the expert should be able to work efficiently with the
tools.
Therefore a significant effort is spent on the improvement of the
handling
of the software tools.

During the last years the company grew
significantly and in the
meantime many customers and partners aroud the world rely on the products and services of AWE
Communications.
Today all employees of AWE
Communications help to improve the software
tools, products and services. And they are very
engaged to preserve the current status of the company: To be one of
the leaders for radio network
planning and wave propagation in the global wireless market.

Besides
the above mentioned software products, the company is also engaged in
further business
areas:
- Customer specific R&D projects in the area
of mobile communications (development of individual and
customer-defined software modules based on the products of AWE
Communications).
- Participation in public funded projects (European or
national level)
- Simulation of wave propagation or
planning of
wireless networks for customers not familiar with these topics (e.g.
the communications network for the police in a city,...).
- Scientific
publications on international conferences
- Additional services
related to wave propagation, radio network planning and conversion of databases
- Participating in the European COST programs (Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research) to stimulate and
coordinate research activities in the EU in the fields of wave
propagation and radio network planning.
- Education
- Seminars
related to the software
products of AWE Communications and to general aspects of wireless
communications
- EMC
Workshops
for the public with contributions to the discussion about health issues
and radiation of electromagnetic waves
- Tutorials
at international conferences
- Lectures
about mobile communications at universities (co-funding of lectures).
